There are many festivals across the SW of France during the summer including the annual Fete De Fleur held in August in Bagneres de Luchon, The Maricac Jazz Festival July/August in Gers, festivities for Bastille Day and the lighting of Brandons to celebrate St Jacques and in winter fabulous Christmas Markets often running at night.

From mountains to rural countryside you will be inundated with choice or indeed bewiderment in choosing a location to walk. Indeed Garvarnie, Pont d Espagne and Vignemale make spectacular mountain walks or maybe just take a picnic and sit by the Garonne river or find a sunflower field in Gers. It will be a pleasure to all exploring this region by foot.

Ski in the Pyrenees

Cauterets, Peyragudes, Superbagneres, St Lary and La Mongie are just a few of the Ski resorts to be found in the French Pyrenees, of course you could just pop over the boarder to Spain and find yourself in Baqueira an immense ski resort favoured by King Juan Carlos of Spain. The resorts in The Pyrenees are less busy than those found in the Alps so it makes for a safer and more relaxing experience especially if you have a young family.

Gers is a complete contrast geographically to the mighty mountain range of the Pyrenees. Its flat, very dry and hot in the summer months. The landscape is dominated by sunflower fields on every corner or every farmers field. The region is renowned for its gastronomy and fine wines and armagnac, if you like fine dining this is the place to go. However you will find many rustic restaurants serving very regional and hearty dishes such as confit du conard. There is plenty of history in the region for example famous for being one of the Three Muskateers Charles de Batz-Castelmore D’Artagnan lived in Lupiac near to Marciac.
